Brazil travel to Venezuela in a bid to add to their impressive unbeaten record in the qualifying campaign.

Preview

Brazil will take on bottom-placed Venezuela in their ninth fixture of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The two sides have endured contrasting forms since the commencement of the qualifiers and while one will be eager to sail through comfortably, the other will be looking for a miracle to help them turn their fortunes around. The hosts are rooted to the bottom of the pile having taken just four points from their opening nine games, while Brazil are sitting pretty at the top with eight wins out of eight. They remain at the foot of the standings, with only four points from their first nine games, while Brazil is sitting comfortably at atop, with eight victories out of eight.

Venezuela come into the Thursday's clash on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Paraguay in their most recent qualifying game. They have had only one win from nine qualification matches thus far, a 2-1 victory over Chile in November 2020. Since then, they have lost all the three games that proceeded, against Argentina, Peru and Paraguay. As a result, the bid for a place in the World Cup is basically a lost cause and the upcoming meeting with Brazil has the potentially to worsen the case.

On a head-to-head basis, Venezuela have not been able to record a single win over Brazil in the last two decades. They have only managed one in 27 meetings with the visitors. Against this backdrop, the Seleccao should be more than inspired to put their South American counterparts to the sword once more.

With a perfect tally of eight wins in eight, Brazil have established a commanding lead atop the table as they are now six points clear of second-placed Argentina. Their last outing in the campaign ended in a 2-0 win over Peru, having previously had their clash with Argentina postponed. So far, Tite's men have featured in six World Cup Qualifying games without conceding a goal. Across the last eight matches, they have picked the ball out of their net on just two occasions and have scored 19 goals in return.
