Portugal are out of the UEFA Euro Under-19 Championship and so are Croatia. Spain, France, Greece and England each continue their hunt for the trophy to be handed on July 15.
Portugal needed a point from their last group match to reach the semi-final stage at Euro U19. After bravely avoiding defeat against tournament favourites Spain last weekend, the Portuguese were expected to hold on to their advantage and qualify.

However, this was not to be. Greece scored three times meaning that Betinho’s 96th minute strike for Portugal was nothing more than a consolation.

In Group A’s other match, Spain condemned Estonia to a third consecutive loss. Denis Suarez and Francisco Alcacer scored a goal each for the Spaniards.

France lost 2-1 to England in front of 3,234 spectators at the Kadriorg Stadium. The French eventually lost the top spot to England and just as it happened for the country’s senior team at Euro 2012, a meeting against Spain in the knock-out stages is next.

Croatia demolished Serbia 3-0 in a win that meant virtually nothing due to England’s victory over France in Tallinn. So Euro Under-19 is over for Croatia, Serbia, Estonia and Portugal.

The Portuguese and the Croatians can immediately look ahead to the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup while Spain, France, Greece and England eye gold at UEFA Euro U19.
