Emerson scored two second half goals to lead the Brazilians past six-time champions Boca Juniors at a packed Pacaembu stadium.
Brazilian champions Corinthians won their first Copa Libertadores title after defeating Argentina's Boca Juniors 2-0 in front of almost 40,000 fans at the Pacaembu stadium on Wednesday.

Corinthians, who picked up a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the final in Buenos Aires last week, proved too strong for the six-time Copa Libertadores champions with a superb performance in front of their home fans.

After an even first half, where both teams failed to create decent goal-scoring opportunities, the game opened up in the second, and Corinthians made the most of their home advantage with a strong display.

Emerson opened the scoring for Corinthians in the 54th minute, when after a dangerous free-kick into the Boca area, he met a clever flick from midfielder Danilo with a powerful finish.

The striker sealed the victory for the Brazilians in the 72nd minute, when he latched onto a misplaced pass from Boca defender Rolando Schiavi, charged into the area at pace and slotted the ball past Boca goalkeeper Sebastian Sosa.

Boca, who were playing in their 10th final, were hoping to equal the record held by Buenos Aires rivals Independiente as being the most successful club in Copa Libertadores history with seven titles, but they were completely brushed aside by an extremely compact Corinthians outfit.

At the conclusion of the match Juan Roman Riquelme, Boca's best player of the competition, announced that he will exit the Argentine giants, adding further misery to their devastating finals defeat.

Corinthians, who won the FIFA Club World Championship in the year 2000, finally join Sao Paulo rivals Sao Paulo FC, Palmeiras and Santos as winners of South America's biggest club competition.
