The impromptu press conference saw president Joan Laporta sharing details on the Dutch coach's future after Saturday's clash

With the team immersed in one of its worst starts in years, and with almost every fan demanding Ronald Koeman's "head", Barcelona president Joan Laporta stepped up to discuss what could happen to the Dutch boss if Atlético Madrid took home all the points after tonight's game between the two Spanish giants.

Speaking to journalists outside of the team's hotel in Madrid, Laporta gave a message of support to the under-fire boss which may not be seen as a good sign by many Blaugrana supporters.

Simply put, Laporta is not willing to fire Koeman, as per his own words you can find in the following video. If you are not a Spanish-speaking user don't worry, we'll provide the proper translation under the video.

"I ask our fans to have confidence in our coach. He is a reference on what it means to be a member of this club"

Here is the translation to Laporta's words.

"He will continue (to coach Barcelona). He deserves a margin of confidence because he is one of our own. He loves Barcelona, he is a reference in Barcelona's world. Added to that, he decided to become Barcelona's coach during a difficult time both for the club and the team. After speaking to him, I see that he trusts this team, especially when he is able to recover those players that are currently injured for many circumstances. Once that happens, we will be able to compete. He believes in his players and he loves the team, he deserves to be trusted as we all do since we have recently arrived. We have a slight margin of confidence and he deserves that as well. Regardless of today's result, Koeman will continue coaching Barcelona, he is still under contract, and let's hope the team is capable to play the way we are used to watch them play, I know that he (Koeman) will try his best to do so."

So, there you have it. Not only does Ronald Koeman have the support of his players, the club's main man has stepped up to give him his blessing to carry on with this project. Will this decision come and haunt Laporta after tonight's game?
