Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways when they host Villarreal at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Manchester United will welcome Villarreal to Old Trafford as they look to secure their first win in the Champions League this season. The Red Devils had a false start in the new campaign after suffering a suprise defeat against Young Boys in Switzerland two weeks ago. Despite breaking the deadlock through Cristiano Ronaldo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men had their chances hampered owning to the sending off of Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a rough tackle. The host then found an equalizer through Nicolas Ngamaleu before a mistake by Jesse Lingard in the 95th minute allowed Jordan Siebatcheu to steal the maximum three point for David Wagner's men.

Since the defeat in Switzerland, Man United have struggled for form, losing to West Ham in the Carabao Cup third round and falling to Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Needless to say, they still occupy a commanding position in the English top-flight league as only one point separates them from the top spot. The clash against Villarreal comes at an opportune time for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who will be looking to turn things around after coming under massive scrutiny.

Having been defeated via a penalty shoot-out by the Yellow Submarines in the finals of last season's Europa League, the Old Trafford outfit are eager to finally get their revenge. But the test will not be an easy one for the Premier League side considering how resilient their opoonents have also been in their respective outings. While they have been unable to secure wins in a consistent manner, Unai Emery's side have picked up draws in their seven of their last 10 appearances in all competitions.

During the period, they have picked up just one win and it came in a 4-1 thrashing of Elche in La Liga. Much of the problems of the reigning Europa League champions has been largely due to injuries to a number of their key players. In the trip to Manchester, Emery will still count on the personnel available to him as a defeat could hamper their chances of survival in the group.
