England, Spain, Germany and the Czech Republic all qualified for the UEFA Euro 2012 quarter-finals as group winners. Which of these teams stand the best chance of reaching the semis?

Czech Republic, England, Spain and Germany were the group winners at UEFA Euro 2012.A look at Euro 2012's group winners

Czech Republic

The Czechs made it to the quarter-finals as surprised Group A winners ahead of Greece, Russia and Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland. The Czech Republic started off very poorly with a 4-1 mauling in the hands of the Russians.

However, two consecutive victories saw them bounce back against the odds. With 6 points from a possible 9, the 27th best football nation in the world managed to find their way among Europe’s eight best teams this summer.

Germany

Germany lived up to expectations and secured a perfect record in the Group of Death. The DFB Eleven defeated Portugal 1-0 and Holland 2-1 before breaking the Danes heart with a dramatic 2-1 win in their final Group B game.

Under coach Joachim Lowe, the Germans have established themselves as the team to beat alongside UEFA European Championship titleholders Spain. How far will the youngest team – with an average age of 24.52 go at UEFA Euro 2012?

Spain

The Spaniards accomplished their mission of toping Group C. However, they had a tough time against Italy and Croatia. It was against the latter that Spain sealed their qualification into the quarter-finals as group winners. The World Cup champions have been tipped to create history by becoming the first side to win three major trophies in the space of four years.

Coach Vicente del Bosque has the best squad on paper but will the absences of Carles Puyol and David Villa soon be regretted? Spain will face Laurent Blanc’s wounded French team next.

England

Ahead of UEFA Euro 2012, England had to deal with multiple headaches. John Terry’s dismissal as the team captain, Wayne Rooney’s two-match suspension and the coach hunt to replace Fabio Capello topped the list of the FA’s problems. However, in no time at all, new manager Roy Hodgson has transformed the Three Lions into serious contenders at Euro 2012.
