Real Madrid will look target a return to the top of the league table when they welcome Mallorca to the Bernabeu in the midweek's league clash.

Preview

Real Madrid will try to add to their brilliant start to the 2021/2022 La Liga season when they host newly promoted Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday. Following Atletico Madrid's triumph over Getafe on Tuesday, Los Blancos have currently been demoted to second on the league table, having picked up 13 points from a possible 15. Following a 4-1 thumping of Alaves in their league curtain-raiser, Los Blancos had to fight for a point against Levante, with a double from Vinicius Jr salvaging a 3-3 draw for the Whites.

Since then, Carlo Ancelotti's men have won three successive La Liga games, and have subjected Serie A champions Inter Milan to a 1-0 defeat in their opening group game of this season's Champions League. The 2019/2020 La Liga title winners approach Wednesday's match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Valencia, a game in which they benefited from yet another late drama with both Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema combining forces to snatch all the three points.

Although the Merengues did not do a lot of business in the transfer window, new boys David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga have quickly settled in and have made the side quite a force to be reckoned with. With confidence soaring in camp, they are fancied to go all the way as rivals Barcelona are yet to hit their stride and Atletico Madrid are also grinding for results. Consdiering how the team they come up against have fared in the competition so far, it will not be a surprise if an upset ensues at the Bernanbeu on Wednesday.

Following their promotion from the second division last season, Mallorca began their debut season in the top flight with a fine draw against Real Betis, before grabbing their first three-point through a 1-0 away win over Alaves. Luis Garcia's men then won consecutive 1-0 games, with Dani Rodriguez scoring the only goal against fellow promoted side Espanyol at home. They now go into Wednesday's encounter on the back of a solid performance that earned them a draw against Villarreal.

Mallorca will look to continue their fine form and survive relegation although they now particularly face a difficult assignment with a trip to the capital.
