Serie A is up and running and its first week was not short of thrills.

The Italian Serie A returned over the weekend and practically picked up from where it ended things last season with a number of suprising results emerging. Defending champions Inter Milan had a perfect start to the new campaign and managed to hit Genoa for four to extend their impressive winning streak in the league to nine.

On the contrary, rivals Juventus - who will be poised to reclaim the Scudetto - were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw against Udinese this weekend. Despite having established a two-goal lead in the first half, the Bianconeri were pegged back and ended up conceeding two second half goals. A late strike by Cristiano Ronaldo would have sealed the result but an offside ruling by VAR dashed the hopes of the Old Lady and ensured that Massimiliano Allegeri's second-coming began with a draw.

Over in Roma, Jose Mourinho marked his Serie A return by firing his charges to a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in an encounter which ended with both sides having nine outfield players on the pitch.  In Naples, Luciano Spalletti set his new team out to get the better of newly promoted Venezia, registering a 2-0 win despite having overseen Victor Oshimen's sending off in the 22nd minute.
