The tournament between MLS and Liga MX teams picks up after a two-year wait. Have a look at the fixtures and teams involved here.

Once again, teams from the MLS and the Mexican Primera División lock horns to determine who is the best team in the North American region in the Leagues Cup. The tournament was suspended in 2020 due to the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year, new teams filled with high hopes will try to take the trophy home.

The format of this competition will force teams to play single-match ties to advance to the next round until a champion is named. Cruz Azul, the winners of the 2019 edition, will not be able to defend their crown since they are involved in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League, and football's governing body in the region did not give them their OK to participate in the competition. Hence, the 2021 edition of this tournament will give us a new champion.

All activity will kick off in the tournament when Sporting Kansas City and León lock horns. The American team will enter this game as the Western Conference leaders, while León came back from a disappointing start to win two in a row under new coach Ariel Holan, who seems to be finding the right squad to give fans what they want to see.

Hours later, Seattle Sounders will be hosting Tigres UANL at Lumen Field. Miguel Herrera's team will try to go back to winning ways after two games without a win, while the Sounders will make it to this tournament after securing the runner-up spot in the Western Conference after their draw against FC Dallas.

The competition will continue on Wednesday when Pumas UNAM make the trip to the Big Apple, where New York City FC will host them. The New Yorkers are third in the Eastern Conference after 17 games, and they will be facing Pumas, who are yet to win tbeir first game this semester after one draw and two losses. Will they find their best form in this competition and make it to the next round?

Lastly, the Quarter-finals will come to a close when Orlando City face Santos Laguna. The hosts will enter this game as runners-up in the Eastern Conference after 18 games. Meanwhile, the team from Torreón make it to this match with one win and two draws in the Mexican top-flight. Given the kind of teams and players in each squad, this could be an interesting game to follow.

The winners of each game will enter the semi-finals, which are scheduled to be played in September 14 and September 15. The venues are yet to be determined.
