The Argentine forward was reportedly looking at ways to terminate his contract with Lionel Messi close to joining PSG.

Sergio Aguero has denied claims of wanting to leave Barcelona just two months after joining the club as a free agent, a report from Spain has revealed. This comes on the back of claims that the 33-year-old Argentine striker had told his lawyers to review the contract he signed to see whether there is enough grounds for him to leave the Catalunya club with his close friend and national teammate Lionel Messi set for an imminent exit.

Aguero was unveiled as a Barcelona player on May 31, 2021 after bringing to an end a 10-year stint as a Manchester City player. Due to the financial constraints at the Spanish club, the forward took a massive pay-cut and penned a two-year contract despite having drawn interest from a number of Premier League clubs. One key reason for his move was also believed to be down to Lionel Messi who reportedly convinced the player to complete the switch to Camp Nou so that they play together.

However, the developments of the past 24 hours have presented a different outlook to the situation ahead of the start of the 2021-2022 La Liga season with Messi said to be on his way out of Barca. The six-time Ballon d'Or winner was expected to sign a new contract that would have potentially seen him end his career with Los Blaugrana. Despite both parties having agreed to terms, a deal could not be struck. According to the club's president Juan Laporta, the only way the legendary No.10 would have been retained was for him to mortgage his side to comply with Financial Fair Play.

In light of this, Lionel Messi's renewal has become all but impossible and reunion with Neymar Jr at Paris Saint-Germain is said to be as close as ever. With Aguero having been assured of playing alongside his compatriot, some news outlets in Spain stated that he had been left disappointed and unhappy by the turn of events. According to them, the former Manchester City star feels betrayed by the club and had asked his lawyers to review the terms of his contract with a decision expected to be made in the coming days.

TyC Sports' Gastón Edul has since rebuffed the claims, stating that the player remains committed to seeing out his two-year contract at Barcelona.
