The Norwegian coach has put pen to paper on an Old Trafford extension ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Anyone hoping to see a new head coach at the helm of Man United would not have enjoyed today as the Red Devils confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new deal at Old Trafford.

While the Norwegian tactician is yet to win silverware since taking over the Red Devils, what is undeniable is the gradual improvement he has brought to the club and their personnel. Ole led the club to a runners-up finish last season, their best position since finishing in second in 2017-18, and has been rewarded with a new deal.

His new and improved contract runs until 2024, with an option for a further year. This could take his reign at the Theatre of Dreams to six years, should he see out his deal, having initially been named the caretaker shortly after Jose Mourinho's departure in December 2018.

"Everyone knows the feeling I have for this club, and I am delighted to have signed this new contract," the ecstatic Solskjaer told the club's official website. "It is an exciting time for Manchester United, we have built a squad with a good balance of youth and experienced players that are hungry for success.

"I have a fantastic coaching team around me, and we are all ready to take that next step on our journey. Manchester United wants to be winning the biggest and best trophies and that's what we are all striving for. We have improved, both on and off the pitch, and that will continue over the coming seasons.

"I can't wait to get out in front of a packed Old Trafford and get this campaign started."

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward sung Solskjaer's praises, hailing the Norwegian icon for the impact he's had at the club, saying: "Ole and his staff have worked tirelessly putting the foundations in place for long-term success on the pitch.

"The results of that have become increasingly visible over the past two seasons and we are all looking forward to seeing this exciting team develop further in the years ahead.

"What is especially pleasing is the way this progress has been achieved with a blend of young, homegrown talent and top-class recruits, playing attacking football in the best traditions of Manchester United. We are more confident than ever that, under Ole's leadership, we are heading in the right direction."

The 20-time Premier League champions went all the way to the Europa League final last season and while they suffered a shocking defeat to Villarreal, that campaign brought an end to their semifinal hoodoo. Since then, the EPL giants have strengthened their squad, signing Jadon Sancho from Dortmund while making advancements in their pursuit of Real Madrid's Raphael Varane. Next season could be an exciting English top-flight campaign for the Red Devils.
