AS Roma suffer their first league defeat in eight games against a dominant Cagliari at the Stadio Sant'Elia on Wednesday.
The Giallorossi were on the wrong end of a devastating 4-2 defeat to Cagliari in an action-packed encounter at the Stadio Sant'Elia on Wednesday.

Brazilian attacker Thiago Ribeiro put Cagliari ahead in the 7th minute when he met a Daniele Conti pass, before cutting in and firing the ball past Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

But their lead was short-lived, as six minutes later another Brazilian, Juan, connected to a Francesco Totti corner-kick with a bullet header to draw the visitors level.

The goal sparked Roma to life, who after much pressure finally went ahead in the 34th minute when a venomous free-kick from Miralem Pjanic was parried by Cagliari goalkeeper Michael Agazzi in the area and Fabio Borini was at the right place at the right time to poke the ball home.

When it seemed that the Romans would go into the break with a slender advantage, in the 41st minute Chilean reinforcement Mauricio Pinilla latched onto an inviting through ball from Andrea Cossu to fire past an oncoming Stekelenburg.

Five minutes into the restart, Cagliari regained their lead when an impressive Pinilla sent Ribeiro through on the right, and the former Cruzeiro striker rifled the ball in off the crossbar.

Roma tried their best to force a late draw, but it wasn't going to be their day, as in the 92nd minute Segundo Ibarbo weaved himself into the Roma area, before cutting the ball back to Ekdal, who fired home Cagliari's fourth goal to cap off a memorable display for the Sardinians.
