The meeting between Sweden and Ukraine took a different turn after a bad tackle by Danielson left the former handicapped.

The clash between Sweden and Ukraine was set up for a dramatic finale after the former conceded a decisive goal in the late minutes of extra-time. The Blagut were forced to contest for the major part of the period with only ten men following the sending off of Marcus Danielson who received his marching orders for a horrific challenge on Artem Besedin.

In what was the final game of the Round of 16, both sides went at it to secure the all-important win that would guarantee them a place in the quarter-finals. It was no secret that Ukraine's spot in the Round of 16 was aided by Viktor Claesson's 94th minute strike in the win over Poland which sent Jan Andersson's men to the summit of the Group E table. However, Andriy Schevchenko's charges were keen on justifying their qualification, delivering a top performance to defy the bookies' prediction and earn a place among the last eight.

Manchester City's Alexandre Zinchencko broke the deadlock with a stunning volley that was set-up by Andriy Yarmolenko in the 27th minute. Just three minutes before half-time, Emil Forsberg levelled the playing field with another brilliant strike - his fourth of the tournament. The RB Leipzig man will go on to hit the post on two separate occasions as his side pushed for the winning goal.

With the scoreline remaining the same, the game was forced into extra-time although the dynamics were immediately tweaked following the sending off of Marcus Danielson in the 99th minute. The defender was initially shown a yellow card for a high-flying tackle on Ukraine's Artem Besedin. Following the intervention of VAR, the card was changed to red while the former was substituted off with what appears to be a ligament injury.

Artem Dovbyk was introduced into the fray in the 105th minute and the Dnipro forward will go on to score the eventual winner with a few seconds of additional time left to play in the second period of extra-time. With the result, Ukraine will take on England inside Stadio Olimpico as they continue their fairytale campaign at Euro 2020.
