Sweden will take on Ukraine at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening in the final game of the last-16 at Euro 2020.

Preview

Sweden will aim to add to their remarkable campaign in the Euros by recording another important win in Tuesday's clash with Ukraine. The Blagut secured the draw with their opponent in a rather dramatic fashion which actually contributed to the qualification of the latter. Having finished Group C with three points and a negative goal deficit, Victor Claesson's 94th minute goal for Jan Andersson's side against Poland was exactly what Andriy Shevchenko's charges needed to secure qualification to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.

Nevertheless, there will be no room for niceties when they two teams meet with just one quarter-final spot on offer. Sweden in particular will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to nine in the calendar year. They began the European championship campaign with a 0-0 draw with Spain before defeating Slovakia 1-0 to grab a spot in the knockout stage. The 3-2 win over Poland only proved to be an icing on the cake, increasing the number of victories the Yellow and Blue have racked up in the past three months alone to seven.

Having progressed to the knockout phase for the first time since 2004, Sweden will fancy the prospect of progressing further. At this point, the objective will be to get as close as possible to the feat achieved by the team of the 1992 edition of the tournament where they reached the semi-finals. A win on Tuesday will see them go head-to-head with the winner of the other Round of 16 clash between England and Germany.

For Ukraine, their tag as underdogs for this encounter could potentially serve up them with the needed motivation to defy the bookies' prediction and stroll into the quarterfinals. They approach the game with just the 2-1 win over North Macedonia sandwiched between defeats to the Netherlands and Austria in Group C. Needless to say, their form in general has not been bad as the two aforementioned losses are the only ones they have picked up in the nine games played between now and March.

In the last meeting between the pair in 2012, a remarkable brace by current headcoach Andriy Shevchenko secured a memorable 2-1 win for the Blue and Yellow in what was their debut tournament. Zlatan Ibrahimovic who withdrew from the Swedish squad prior to the commencement of this tournament scored the consolation goal for his side. Despite the win, Ukraine failed to progress out of the group stage but will hope that the narrative favors them this time around.

Team news

Sweden have no new injury concerns going into Tuesday's meeting with Ukraine. On the contrary, the latter will take on the Blagut without Viktor Tsyhankov and Oleksandr Zubkov as both players are struggling with calf injuries.
