Venezuela and Peru will aim to secure a spot among the last eight of the Copa America when they lock horns in their last game of the group stage.

Preview

Venezuela will take on Peru inside the Mane Garrincha in their final group game of the ongoing Copa America with both sides looking to qualify for the knockout stage. The outcome of the clash will undoubtedly decide who progresses to the final eight and both sides of I'll be eager to put on a good show to secure a place. The pair have struggled for form in the competition so far but the Venezuelans are the most disadvantaged, having secured just two points from the three games they have featured in so far.

They began their campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Brazil before drawing 0-0 to Colombia in the second group game. A dramatic end to their meeting with Ecuador earned them an important point in the 2-2 draw and a win over Peru should be enough to secure them a place in the next round of the tournament. It is no secret that Venezuela will be required to step up their efforts to make this possible. So far, they have managed just two wins from their last 10 outings, losing five and drawing the remaining three games.

Recent meetings with Peru have proven to be tough with the previous three matches ending in draws. Los Incas, unlike the Venezuelans, will be optimistic about their chances, having secured four points from three outings so far. After suffering a 4-0 defeat to Brazil, they picked themselves up and registered a 2-1 win over Colombia before drawing 2-2 with Ecuador.

At the continental cup tournament, Peru have experienced an upturn in form. Prior to the commencement of the finals, they had recorded just two wins from 12 outings, losing as many as eight and drawing the remaining two games. On Sunday, a win over Venezuela will catapult them to second position and that is what Ricardo Gareca's men will look to focus on. On the contrary, a defeat may see them slip to fifth on the table and miss out on a qualification place provided Ecuador secures an unlikely win over Brazil.
