Qatar will be hoping to successfully defend their AFC Asian Cup title, while Jordan will be hoping to cap off an impressive campaign when the two sides lock horns in the tournament's final on Saturday, February 10th.

After nearly a month of plenty of thrills, spills and other shock results, the 2023 AFC Asian Cup final is set to get underway this weekend. Qatar, who are not only the reigning champions but also served as this year's hosts, will hope to successfully defend their title and become the fourth nation to achieve this feat.

The Maroons were given quite a fright in their semi-finals meeting with Iran, during which their opponents stunned most of the home crowd by seizing an early lead. That marked the first time Qatar fell behind in this competition, and Tintín Márquez's men faced a very tough battle throughout. Despite eventually reclaiming a one-goal lead in the 82nd minute and Iran being down to ten men, Team Melli refused to give up and gave Qatar's fans a real scare late on in stoppage time.

Fortunately, however, Qatar were able to survive that nervy experience and now will be looking to avoiding the fate China suffered two decades ago. To date, China are the last host team to feature in the final match and fail to win it as hosts.

Meanwhile, Jordan have really exceeded expectations at this year's competition. Hussein Ammouta's team notably held regional heavyweights South Korea to a 2-2 draw during the group stages, before beating the same opponents 2-0 in the semi-finals to gain a spot in their first ever final. Now, they are just 90 minutes (or possibly more) away from clinching the coveted prize, and despite knowing that they will be facing a very hostile crowd, it's safe to say that Jordan will be fancying their chances at ending what has been a fairy-tale run on a high note.
