Mbappe questions PSG future ahead of Euro 2020 tie

Mbappe openly questions PSG future in interview ahead of France's Euro 2020 opener

June 12, 2021 By Ali M.
PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi stated that there is no better place for the attacker than the Parc des Princes, but the Frenchman has now challenged that claim.

Kylian Mbappe is gearing up for France's Euro 2020 opening fixture against Germany, a crucial and highly-anticipated showdown in this summer European Championship. However, in a recent interview, the world-class attacker drew attention away from that tie and brought focus to his future at PSG, an issue that has garnered non-stop speculation from the media.

The 22-year-old sensation sat down with France Football to discuss an array of topics, the biggest being that of his contract situation at the Parc des Princes. Unlike fellow superstar Neymar, Kylian is yet to sign a new contract and commit his future to Les Parisiens, which is a huge concern as he has entered the final 12 months of his current deal.

PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi recently stated that their talisman forward will neither be sold nor will he leave on a free, though he failed to explain how he intends on preventing the latter given to the player's contract situation. The Qatari official argued that there is no better place for the French international than Paris but Mbappe has now openly questioned whether the Parc des Princes is the ideal spot for him.

"I don't necessarily need to go fast. I have to make the right decision, which is difficult, and give myself every chance to make up my mind," Mbappe told France Football in regards with his future, as per Goal

"I am in a place where I like myself, where I feel good. But is this the best place for me? I don't have the answer yet.

"I know that a project with or without me is not quite the same for the club.

"But PSG understand my feelings. Probably also because they knows that I will not sneak.

"Being a great player also proves itself outside the field where you have to know how to do things cleanly and with class."

The 2018 World Cup winner has long been linked with a move away from his home country, with Real Madrid touted as the likeliest of destinations. There is a belief among some that PSG, who missed out on the Ligue 1 title to Lille, could be forced to facilitate a transfer instead of watching him leave for free next summer. While the attacker has not ruled out a stay, attempts to extend his contract have so far not been fruitful.

One reason for this might be the UEFA Euro 2020, which kicked off yesterday with Italy's 3-0 win over Turkey. France and Mbappe will be focused on winning the European Championship which will require Les Bleus getting the better of group rivals Germany and Portugaal, meaning the player is likely to delay this issue until after the tournament is complete.
