Chelsea vs Manchester City will see a number of battles which include the following: Juan Mata vs David Silva, Didier Drogba vs Mario Balotelli and Andre Villas-Boas vs Roberto Mancini…
Last week, AVB mocked claims of a Chelsea crisis in great fashion. The young manager made proof of leadership by inspiring the Blues to a vital victory over Valencia.

As a result, the Champions League dream is still on for all Chelsea supporters. What about the prospect of winning the English Premier League? Responding to this question, Juan Mata told the press:

“If we win against City, we will have more confidence. The Premier League does not finish for another six or seven months. Nothing is impossible. They have a big points difference, but I think it [winning the title] is not impossible.”

Chelsea are 10 points behind Manchester City ahead of tonight’s big fixture at Stamford Bridge. Interestingly, Stamford Bridge is the ground where Andre Villas-Boas misguided the Blues against Arsenal and Liverpool back in October and in November.

However, Chelsea have not conceded a goal in the last 180 minutes in all competitions. They’ve also picked up maximum points from their last 2 league matches.

Their 3-0 defeat of Newcastle United was rather fascinating. So what should the public expect from the Blues when they come face to face with unbeaten English Premier League leaders Manchester City on Monday night?

The Citizens opened December with a wonderful 5-1 victory over Norwich at the Etihad Stadium. But City haven’t played away from home yet, this month. Their last trip resulted in a 1-1 draw at Anfield on November 27.

Interestingly, Manchester City’s last away victory in all competitions dates from November 5 when they edged 3-2 past Queens Park Rangers. What are Chelsea’s chances of forcing the Citizens to drop points again?

For Samir Nasri, they are apparently very slim. The former Arsenal midfielder, like the rest of his Manchester City team mates, exited from the UEFA Champions League last week.

However, the momentum is not dead. Nasri is focused on Premiership glory and the match against Chelsea comes as just another test among the 38. ESPN Soccernet quoted the French player as saying:

“It will be difficult when we play Chelsea, of course, but we knew it would also be difficult going to places like Spurs, Man United and Liverpool - and we had great results against those teams. So I don't know what we have to fear about Chelsea.

“We are confident about our quality and we will try to play the same game that Liverpool did when they beat Chelsea in the league at Stamford Bridge. We know that if we press them high and play our football, then they will be in difficulty.”

For sure, Manchester City haven’t won the English Premier League yet. There is a long way to go, but if they can keep the foot on the pedal, they could achieve their dream. Tonight, the Citizens could restore their 5-point gap over Manchester United before playing Arsenal this weekend.

Chelsea, meanwhile, cannot afford to lose more points as the winter period approaches its climax. Presently, the Blues are fifth in the table—sandwiched between on-fire Arsenal and Kenny’s Liverpool.

The race for a top four finish will only get tighter whereas the battle for the league title could transform into an exclusive Manchester affair.
