La Roja beat England to lift the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup title while two of their players made history after winning the individual accolades.

It is official: Spain are your 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup champions.

La Roja, who did not enter this tournament as the favorites despite their talented squad — this is mainly due to the turmoil between the players, the coaching staff, and the federation — faced England in the final and emerged victorious.

Olga Carmona's goal just before the half-an-hour mark was enough to secure Spain a 1-0 triumph, thus breaking the hearts of England and its fans while sending their own supporters back home and in the stands into pandemonium.

While the nation has won a World Cup before, lifting the men's title in 2010 during the era of Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Iker Casillas, and Carles Puyol; the European side had never won the FIFA Women's World Cup until today. And that is not the only record they set in this tournament.

Aitana Bonmatí, regarded by many as the best women's player in world football currently, was awarded the Golden Ball after picking up three goals and two assists in the tournament. However, her performance in Australia and New Zealand cannot be summed up with stats as her displays from midfield were nothing short of outstanding.

And just like that, she became the first Spaniard in history to receive the Golden Ball at the FIFA World Cup, including the men's tournament. While Andres Iniesta and David Villa were inspirational in La Furia Roja's 2010 World Cup win in South Africa, Diego Forlan was named Player of the Tournament, meaning Bonmati has achieved something no other player from her country has pulled off.

And she is not alone. Salma Paralluelo, who scored in both the quarterfinals and semifinals, was named the Young Player of the Tournament and became the first player in the history of the beautiful game to become the reigning World Cup champion at the U20 and senior level.

The 19-year-old Barcelona sensation led her country to the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup title, scoring a brace in the final before leaving her mark at the 2023 Women's World Cup. The attacker has already won the U17 World Cup and European Championship in her short career, proving that the sky is the limit for this superstar-in-the-making.
