The last quarter-finals match of the 2023 Women's World Cup will get underway on August 12th as England and Colombia battle for a spot in the semi-finals.

With Spain and Sweden now having secured their places in the semi-finals after beating the Netherlands and Japan respectively, all eyes will be on the fixtures taking place on August 12th. England, who won their first international title last year at the Women's EURO 2022 competition, will look to join their fellow UEFA sides in the final four as the Lionesses prepare to face a Colombia side who are making all sorts of waves in this summer's competition.

To date, England have qualified for at least the quarter-finals in all five prior World Cups that they qualified for, and made it to the semi-finals in their last two consecutive appearances (in 2015 and 2019). This time around, however, Sarina Wiegman's team are hoping to aim higher than that, especially after winning the Women's EURO last year. Despite facing an uphill battle due to injuries to several key players, including Beth Mead and Fran Kirby, England successfully navigated their way through the group stages with three wins out of three, including cruising to a 6-1 win over China on matchday three to head into the knockout rounds as group winners.

Their round of 16 opponents Nigeria proved to be a very determined foe, and in fact, looked like the much better side for spells of the match. Yet, despite going a player down after key striker Lauren James was sent off late in the second half, England somehow managed to keep the Super Falcons at bay and overcame the West African powerhouse 4-2 on penalties after the match finished 0-0 in regular and extra time.

Meanwhile, Colombia are now in new territory after successfully seeing off another surprise package, Jamaica, in the round of 16. The South American nation have been one of the revelations of the 2023 Women's World Cup as their performances against South Korea, and notably, Germany, ensured that they qualified for the round of 16 as Group H's winners. Despite losing 1-0 to Morocco on matchday three, it mattered little as Germany ended up being dumped out following a 1-1 draw with an already-eliminated South Korea.
