Zlatan reduced to tears as Swedish ace retires

WATCH: Zlatan brought down to tears as Swedish ace retires from football

June 4, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The AC Milan striker decided to call it quits from the beautiful game after an injury-plagued season where he only played four matches.

The end of the Serie A season has also come with the end of an era, as Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has retired from professional football.

The former Ajax, Barcelona, Inter, and Manchester United ace decided to hang his boots after a disappointing season, which saw him score only once in four games. Ibrahimovic was key to Milan's rise to win the 2021-22 Scudetto last season, but a series of injuries to his knees forced him to end his career.

Ibrahimovic was reportedly in talks to join Monza this summer as a free agent, but the Swedish ace decided to retire in front of an emotional crowd at San Siro Stadium, right after the end of the 3-1 win for the rossoneri against Hellas Verona.

The player, who was deeply moved after his announcement, was reduced to tears in front of the team's supporters, with some of his teammates like Sandro Tonali and team exec Paolo Maldini shedding a few tears as well.

Ibrahimovic ends his career after playing over 800 games for Mälmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, PSG, Manchester United, LA Galaxy, and a second stint with the rossoneri. He retires as the only player to score goals for six different teams in UEFA Champions League matches.
