Chelsea opened up the scoring in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League final thanks to an unsung hero: Kai Havertz.
The German footballer managed to end his wait for a UEFA Champions League goal when it mattered the most, as he put to good use a great pass by Mason Mount that left him in front of goal with only the keeper to beat. To make matters even easier for him, Ederson Moraes failed to clear the ball and gifted Havertz the chance to score with an open net.
It was sort of a reward for Chelsea, because Manchester City dominated possession during the first half, but Chelsea had enjoyed the clearest chances to score the opener.
With this goal, Havertz also accomplished a small piece of history for himself when it comes to German footballers playing in the top club competition in Europe.
Kai Havertz (aged 21 yrs, 352 days) is the second youngest German player to score in an #UCLfinal after Lars Ricken (20 yrs, 322 days) for Borussia Dortmund in 1997
