Ibrahimovic sustains injury

Disappointment for Ibrahimovic during international break with Sweden

March 30, 2023 By Michelle Bonsu
The veteran striker has now suffered another injury setback during the international hiatus.

At 41, not many would blame a player for already having opted to hang up his boots. However, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is keen on still going and showing that age is nothing but a number.

The Swedish superstar set a record a few weeks back when he scored for AC Milan against Udinese. While he was unable to prevent his side from slumping to a 3-1 loss, he becomes the oldest ever player to find the back of the net in Serie A.

Unfortunately, after the joys of achieving that milestone, it appears that Ibrahimovic has now suffered another setback in his long road back from injury. The experienced striker has been on the sidelines since last year as he recovered from a knee injury and subsequent surgery, and now reports indicate that he might be out yet again.

During Sweden's disappointing 3-0 loss to Belgium, Ibrahimovic, who played for about 15 minutes, appears to have picked up some kind of thigh strain. As a result, he was not involved in Sweden's second match against Azerbaijan, during which Janne Andersson's men cruised to a 5-0 win over the Eastern European outfit.

Given the fact that Ibrahimovic was out for nearly a year following his knee surgery, Milan will naturally be keen on making sure they manage the player's latest injury properly. As per reports from Italy, the veteran striker looks set to miss about a fortnight of action in order for the muscular issue to abate.

Milan will be in action this weekend as they face league leaders Napoli, but Stefano Pioli's squad will have to make do now without both Ibrahimovic and key defender Pierre Kalulu for at least the next few weeks.
