Corinthians extended their lead at the top of the Brasileiro with a late win, while arch-rivals Palmeiras did them a favour in holding Vasco da Gama to a draw.
Corinthians are just a step away from clinching the Brazilian championship, after opening a two point lead at the top, courtesy of a 1-0 win over Ceara on Wednesday. The only goal of the match was converted by Peruvian striker Luis Ramirez ten minutes from full-time.

With 64 points from 35 matches, Corinthians have a slight advantage over second-placed Vasco da Gama, with 62 points. Vasco were held to a 1-1 draw by Palmeiras, a result which drastically reduced their chances of lifting the silverware.

Meanwhile, Fred scored four times as Fluminense edged Gremio 5-4 in an absolute thriller. With the win the Rio de Janeiro club still have an outside chance of lifting back-to-back championships.

Fluminense remain in third-place, five points behind the league leaders, after defeating Gremio 5-4 at the Engenhao stadium, thanks to four goals from Brazilian international Fred.

Gremio went into the break with a 2-1 advantage in Rio de Janeiro, but Fluminense reversed the situation in the second half, with a spectacular performance from Fred. While Rafael Sobis scored Flu's other goal, Rafael Marques, Marquinhos, Adison and Brandao, with two goals, found the back of the net for the visitors.

Fluminense travel to the Orlando Scarpelli stadium to do battle with direct rivals Figueirense on Sunday.

Corinthians' closest rivals Vasco da Gama could only afford a 1-1 draw with Palmeiras at the Pacaembu stadium, a result which saw them drop two points below the league leaders.

Vasco defender Dede, who has been in sensational form in recent weeks, put the visitors ahead in the 4th minute, but Luan cancelled the goal out in the 63rd minute with Palmeiras' equaliser. By holding Vasco to a draw Palmeiras did a big favour for arch-rivals Corinthians, who are just a step away from clinching the title.

In order to remain in the title race, Vasco de Gama must beat bottom-placed Avai at the Sao Januario stadium on Sunday.

Peruvian striker Luis Ramirez scored ten minutes from full-time to give Corinthians a crucial 1-0 victory over Ceara that extends their lead at the top of the Brasileiro to two points ahead of closest-rivals Vasco da Gama with only three rounds left to play.

Corinthians dominated their opponents throughout the game, but couldn't find a goal no matter how hard they tried. When it seemed that the game would end in a goalless draw, substitute Ramirez netted the winner for Corinthians. Prior to the game the Peruvian had only made five appearances for Corinthians this season, scoring no goals.

With a win over Atletico-MG at the Pacaembu stadium on Sunday, Corinthians will edge even closer to the title.

Flamengo fought out a goalless draw with Figueirense at the Engenhao stadium on Thursday, a result that all but put an end to their title aspirations.

Despite the intentions of Ronaldinho, he was off touch throughout the game, as his side struggled to breakdown the resilient Figueirense defense. Flamengo were lucky not to have lost the game right at the end. Ronaldinho was jeered at by the home fans after a frustrating performance.

With the draw, Figueirense remain in fourth-place of the Brasileiro with 57 points, one place above Flamengo with 56 points. Flamengo visit Atletico-GO at the Serra Dourada stadium on Sunday.
