Laporta shares bold transfer plans for Barcelona

Barcelona president shares bold transfer plan ahead of summer window

March 7, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The Blaugrana boss also dropped a hint on Sergio Busquets' future with the club, which could be related to the team's success in La Liga.

Barcelona may be restrained by Financial Fair Play rules and by La Liga's wage scale, but that has not stopped their president from sharing his plans to reinforce the team next summer.

Speaking in a public event at Barcelona's Equestrian Circle, president Joan Laporta went on to discuss the kind of players he wants to add to the club, and while he did not share the names of those footballers, he pointed at the positions he wants to boost with talent.

"A left back, a center back, a striker, and a midfielder, but that would depend on who ends up leaving the club," Laporta initially said.

Then, the Blaugrana boss seemed to realize that his club will not have unlimited funds at their disposal, especially after crashing out of the UEFA Europa League a couple of weeks back.

"We would need more depth with our forwards, but we have to remember that our resources are limited," Laporta added.

When asked about Sergio Busquets' future with the club, Laporta hinted that the team's intention will be to keep the Spanish midfielder around, but it will depend entirely on what the player wants to do, considering some massive bids for his services.

"The first thing we have to do is know what he wants. He is a key player for us, Xavi wants him around and he has some thinking to do. We're plotting a scenario where we can offer him one more year, but he has other bids on his table. If we win La Liga, our chances of holding on to him could increase," Laporta added.

The Spanish giants will have a couple of busy weeks ahead of them, as they are set to face Athletic on Sunday and Real Madrid on March 19. Both games will be key to their title hopes, but more importantly, to Laporta's plans, as new silverware could mean more funds to a team with a struggling economy.
