Without mentioning the name of Cristiano Ronaldo, Brazilian living legend Pele has given, yet another time, his judgment on Lionel Messi’s status in the world of football.
Pele engaged in a lengthy encounter with The Sun’s Stuart Pink. The topic of Lionel Messi popped up during the interview, to which the World Cup hero responded:

“I think a 'great' player is defined by their performances at the World Cup. For example, watch Lionel Messi play for Barcelona. He is very good. [He is] exceptional.

“But for Argentina, he's completely different. Compare him to Zinedine Zidane.

“He won the World Cup and was at the top for 15 years. He was a more complete player than Messi.”

Lionel Messi experienced 2 uninspiring FIFA World Cup campaigns in 2006 and in 2010 respectively. Unlike during Germany 2006, La Pulga was a first-team player in South Africa.

Despite producing marvelous performances throughout the 2010 World Cup, he couldn’t prevent Argentina from horribly losing 4-0 to eventual bronze medalists Germany in the quarter-finals. Lionel Messi exited the tournament with a goalless record.

Earlier this week, Kaka favored Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi in terms of completeness as a player. Tonight, Lionel Messi will captain the Argentine national team against Bolivia in a South American World Cup qualifier.
