Real Madrid flop ready to join Bundesliga club

Former Real Madrid playmaker in line to join Bundesliga title contenders

January 30, 2023 By Oscar Rojas
The end of the winter transfer window could bring a talented midfielder to one of the teams fighting for the German top-flight's title.

The end of the 2022-23 season will come in a few months, and while some clubs have already rounded up their squads for the final months of this campaign, others such as Bundesliga clubs are still trying to add talent in their quest to a historic result in the German top-flight.

Such is the case of Union Berlin, who have had one hell of a season and have kept themselves only one point behind Bayern München in the title race. To boost their chances of success, coach Urs Fischer has identified a potential signing that could give the Berlin-based side an edge in their quest to win their first-ever title in the Bundesliga, and to make things even more interesting, the alleged transfer target could get to the club for free.

The man that seems set to join Union Berlin during the final day of the transfer window is none other than Isco, who played a key role in four of Real Madrid's five UEFA Champions League wins in the past ten years. The playmaker would get to Berlin on a free transfer given that he parted ways with Sevilla days before the start of the year.

The 30-year-old ace had also been linked with a move to the MLS and to RB Leipzig, but terms for an agreement are in place between the Spaniard and Die Eisernen. If all things go as planned, Isco will be joining the current runners-up in the Bundesliga for the remainder of the season and one additional year if he achieves certain goals with the red and white side.

Isco will be playing away from Spain for the first time in his career. The playmaker made his debut with Valencia for one year, only to be hired by Málaga, where he made a name for himself in two campaigns. His breakthrough came whilst playing for Real Madrid, where he won almost every trophy there is to win in the world of football. His most recen spell with a club came with Sevilla, where he was only able to play 19 games, with one goal and three assists to his name.
