2023 hasn't been the smoothest sailing for Bayern Munich so far. Although die Roten, as expected, are still on top of the league table, Julian Naglesmann's side have yet to win a match so far since the start of the new year.
That includes back to back stalemates against RB Leipzig and Cologne. As a result, the Bavarian titans have seen their lead cut to four points at the Bundesliga table summit.
However, they have been given a major boost. Key striker Sadio Mane, who was signed in the summer of 2022 to provide additional attacking options following the departure of Robert Lewandowski, has finally returned to training after a long-term injury lay-off. The Senagelese ace sustained a leg injury back in November, which required surgery and unfortuantely saw him miss out on Senegal's participation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
After having surgery on his fibula, there were fears that Mane would be out for even longer, but those fears have been allayed with the former Liverpool man returning to training this week. The 30-year-old is anticipated to return just in time for Bayern's round of 16 Champions League tie against PSG, which will take place on February 14th.
