The Nerazzurri will restart their Serie A campaign this week by welcoming current league leaders Napoli, but will have to make do without a key player.

Serie A is set to get underway this Wednesday, as many of Europe's leagues resume following a break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

There are quite a few intriguing clashes coming up, namely Inter welcoming league leaders Napoli to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The Nerazzurri won the Scudetto in 2021, but currently languish a whopping 11 points behind the Partenopei who have yet to lose a game in Serie A so far this season.

Simone Inzaghi's side have won four of their last five games, but have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their crunch clash against Luciano Spalletti's troops on Wednesday. According to reports, key midfielder Marcelo Brozovic looks set to miss out on this crunch tie due to a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old has been a mainstay for Inter since arriving in January 2015 and played a starring role in Croatia's side during the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. However, during Croatia's semi-final against Argentina, he appeared to have re-aggravated a preexisting injury that has restricted him to a handful of apperances for Inter this season.

As per the same reports from Italy, Brozovic did not train with his teammates which means that he's not likely to be involved in Inter's first game of 2023. It comes as a major concern for Inzaghi, who knows that his side will need to hit the ground running if they want to have a shot at dislodging Napoli from top spot in the league.
