Man City and Liverpool will resume their season with a Carabao Cup fourth-round tie.

Manchester City will get their 2022-23 campaign back up and running by hosting Liverpool at Etihad Stadium in the Carabao Cup fourth round. Both clubs have been inactive in competitive football for over a month owning to the commitments of several key players at the World Cup, but will now turn their attention to booking a place in the quarter-final of the League Cup.

Man City, the four-time EFL Cup champion between 2018 and 2021, were famously eliminated from the competition on penalties by West Ham United at this same stage of last year's competition. This season, their quest has not been devoid of challenges, having had to beat Chelsea to set up the upcoming match-up with Liverpool.

Taking into account the forms of both clubs before the start of the World Cup, it should be not be much of a test for the Citizens. They approach the mid-week's game on the back of a six-game unbeaten run which preceded the surprise defeat to Brentford in the last Premier League game before the break. Prior to starting the run, the Etihad outfit suffered a 1-0 away defeat to Liverpool in October.

Against this backdrop, the Reds will fancy the odds of getting yet another favorable result against their recent arch-nemesis. Needless to say, it will take some effort to pull this off with their performances raising lots of eyebrows. The defending champions of the Carabao Cup were put in an uncomfortable position in the third round and needed a shoot-out win to settle their tie with Derby County after an Anfield stalemate.

The struggles of Jurgen Klopp's side have also been prevalent in the Premier League where they have currently amassed just 22 points from a possible 42 and are seven points off the top-four with a game in hand. With league action returning in the coming days, a win over Man City will offer Liverpool the needed morale booster to forge ahead for the rest of the season.
