The Citizens will be looking to secure the last set of points before the league breaks for the World Cup when Brentford comes to town.

Manchester City will try to cap off their pre-Christmas Premier League campaign in a remarkable fashion when they come up against Brentford on Saturday. The Citizens will aim to momentarily return to the top of the league table with a win before Arsenal tries to regain top spot when they travel to Wolves later in the day.

Man City have relished playing at home in recent months, registering an incredible 16-game winning streak at Etihad across all competitions. The run stretches as far back as April, with the Citizens scoring 61 goals within the period. Ahead of the weekend's fixture, they will be primed to extend their remarkable streak, and will look to build on the Tuesday night's cup success against Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola's side secured an EFL Cup fourth round pairing with Liverpool after beating the Blues 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez. In their last Premier League outing, the managed to secure a 2-1 victory at the death against Fulham in an encounter in which they finished with 10 men. With a fourth successive home match on the horizon, and the World Cup also looming, the Premier League's defending champions will be poised to finish on a high note.

Needless to say, it will not be a straightforward affair for City against Brentford, although they managed back-to-back wins against the Bees without conceding last season. Thomas Frank's side have had an average campaign thus far and currently ranks 11th on the chart after managing 16 points from a possible 42.

Brentford will approach the weekend's fixture on the back of a disappointing spell in the EFL Cup where they exited the competition at the expense of League Two outfit Gillingham on Tuesday night. Prior to that, they felt hard done after conceding in the 96th-minute to draw 2-2 away at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend.

In the upcoming fixture, the omen could be on the side of the visitors as they have never claimed three successive league defeats against Manchester City across 10 previous meetings. They, however, will need a better performance as they have won only one of their last nine matches across all competitions.
