About Spain in World Cup history

This will be Spain's fifteenth World Cup appearance. La Roja are one of the few teams in the world of football who have been able to win the FIFA World Cup title, which they did in 2010. Prior to that, the red and blue side had never made it past the semi-finals, with some crushing results in different WC editions, where they were eliminated in controversial bouts against Belgium (1986), Italy (1994), and South Korea (2002).

Who is Spain's coach for the 2022 FIFA World Cup?

Luis Enrique Martínez, known professionally as Luis Enrique, will be Spain's coach in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Spanish coach enjoyed quite a bit of success with Barcelona, leading the club to two La Liga titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy in 2015. He joined the Spanish National Team in 2018, although he left them for four months for personal reasons. He returned with La Roja in November 2019, leading them to the UEFA Nations League final in 2021 and to the UEFA Euro semi-finals. He is yet to win a major trophy with La Roja since he became their permanent boss.

Spain's expectations ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

It is safe to say that Spain is not one of the main candidates to win the title, but they are surely one of those teams with high hopes of making it to the final four. La Roja will surely fight for the top spot in Group E, but where they go from there will depend on the kind of rivals they face, especially if they run into Belgium or Croatia in the Round of 16.

Spain: Key players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

This team's hopes for success in Qatar will rely heavily on the performances of three men. The first one of those is goalkeeper Unai Simón, who will surely be starting in his first FIFA World Cup at David de Gea's expense. Simón has proven to be quite reliable, but he has also beein involved in some serious mishaps that have made fans doubt about his abilities.

The second key player for Luis Enrique will be none other than Pedri, who set a record for the most games played in a season between 2020 and 2021. The talented Barcelona playmaker will be one of the top players for Spain in years to come, and the team's overall performance could have a lot to do with how the midfielder behaves in his first FIFA World Cup outing.

Last, but not least, Spain's goalscoring hopes will rely on Alvaro Morata. The former Juventus and Real Madrid striker is seen by many as an inconsistent footballer, and even if he has proven to be effective for La Roja, his current form makes fans believe that there could be better options at No. 9 for the Spanish side. Nevertheless, Luis Enrique seems to trust the man and he seems set to become Spain's main striker during the competition, where his form will surely have an effect on how Spain's campaign concludes in Qatar.
