UEFA Women's Champions League final: How to watch Chelsea vs. Barcelona on May 15

May 14, 2021 By Juan Aguerrevere
CBS announced that the UEFA Women’s Champions League final will stream on Paramount+ for Americans to watch on Sunday, May 16. Find out if you live in one of the other 55+ countries where the final will air.

English champions Chelsea and Spanish champions Barcelona are set to clash in the Women's Champions League final on Sunday, May 16, at 3 p.m. ET. The final contest of the competition will take place at Gamla Ullevi, a stadium that housed games in the 1958 World Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Both teams arrive at the final salivating over the Champions League trophy, the only piece of silverware missing in both team's trophy cabinets. The Blues are looking to seal a quadruple after winning the FA WSL, the Women's FA Cup and the FA Women's League Cup. To do so, they would have to beat a flawless Barcelona Femeni side that will aim to avenge their 2019 loss in the final against Olympique Lyonnais.

Chelsea head coach Emma Hayes has perfected her counter-attacking style and put together a star-studded squad that compliments it. The backline made up of Millie Bright, Magdalena Eriksson, Jessica Carter and Niamh Charles has proved to be rock solid, especially with the help of goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger behind them. Midfielders Melanie Leupolz, Sophie Ingle and Ji So-yun's job is to quickly transition the team from defense into attack and find forwards Fran Kirby, Pernille Harder and Sam Kerr.

On the other hand, Barcelona femeni were crowned queens of Spain after a flawless 26-game win streak in Liga Iberdrola. The Blaugranes has 128 goals in favor and only five against in league play. No team has scored more than one goal in a game against Barcelona in all competitions this season. Players like Jenni Hermoso, Asisat Oshoala, Alexia Putellas, Lieke Martens, Caroline Graham Hansen, Marta Torrejon and Maria Pilar Leon are the backbone of the team that has made it possible to reach this stage of the competition.

Chelsea vs. Barcelona: Players to watch

Ann-Katrin Berger – Chelsea

Hayes claimed that German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger is the best shot-stopper in the world after a world-class performance in the UWCL quarterfinal first leg against Wolfsburg. Chelsea was able to win that game 2-1 thanks to a heroic performance from Berger, who stopped seven shots. Since that game, the Blues have only conceded four goals in nine games.

Given Chelsea's counterattacking style, Berger will be key in keeping the fort safe to allow outfield players to charge forward in the attack.

Jenni Hermoso – Barcelona

Forward Jenni Hermoso will lead Barcelona Femenin's front line as she has done through the season. The Spanish veteran is having a special season, scoring 21 goals in 20 Primera Iberdrola appearances and six goals in eight UEFA Champions League appearances. Hermoso celebrated her 31st birthday on May 9 and hopes to celebrate winning her first UWCL of her 15-year career on Sunday.
