Ronaldo makes history with goal vs Sassuolo

Ronaldo, Dybala score 100th Juventus goal in Sassuolo win

May 12, 2021 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The two attackers reached respective career milestones by getting on the scoresheet in Wednesday's win.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala scored their 100th goals as Juventus players in Wednesday night's win over Sassuolo. The Old Lady secured a 3-1 over the Black and Greens as they hang onto their slim hopes of landing a Champions League slot for next season.

A different script could have unravelled early on but Domenico Berardi made a mess of a penalty kick to put his side in front with his effort being saved by Gianluigi Buffon inside the 16th minute. Shortly after, Adrien Rabiot fired the Turin outfit in front before Cristiano Ronaldo doubled their advantage ahead of the break.

The significance of the strike is that the 38-year-old striker is now the first player in history to score a 100 or more goals for three different clubs. He scored 118 and 450 goals for Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively. In addition, the Portuguese stalwart also became the first player to reach a century of goals for the Bianconeri inside his first three seasons at the club.

Not long after Ronaldo's feat, Giacomo Raspadori pulled one goal back for Sassuolo before Paulo Dybala also bagged his 100th goal in a Juventus shirt. The Argentine striker, in a rare start, scored an brilliant chipped goal after being played through by Dejan Kulusevski in the 66th minute. With the goal, he became the first non-European player to have scored 100+ goals in all competitions for the Bianconeri (excluding those who have played for Italy).

Meanwhile, the result proved unsatisfactory as far as Juventus' top-four aspirations are concerned. With all their rivals winning their respective games, the Bianconeri still sit in the fifth position with 72 points - one point behind fourth-placed Napoli and three behind second and third-placed Atalanta and AC Milan.
