The UEFA Euro 2012 qualification stage has brought a lot of thrills, from Group A to Group I. In this article, we bring you interesting facts that have emerged, thus far.
1) As at now, Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar leads the goal scorers’ chart. The Schalke 04 forward has netted 11 goals for his country in 594 minutes - imposing himself over Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who is 2 goals behind, having played 89 minutes less.

2) Sweden’s Kim Källström is presently the top assist maker. The left-footed midfielder has assisted 7 goals in 718 minutes, but he could lose his spot in no time - being followed by 4 players, including his country mate Sebastian Larsson, who all have 6 assists to their names.

3) AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Schalke’s Huntelaar are hitherto the most accurate frontmen in the UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifying, with 18 attempts on target each. Barcelona’s David Villa has also showed great energy, but his strikes have somewhat had less effects on goalies, with 17 attempts off target.

4) Germany, Netherlands and Spain are the only teams with 100% records. Eventually, they are all leaders in Group A, Group E and Group I respectively.

5) Sweden are currently the best second-placed team, with 21 points. Of the 9 games they have played, they have won 7 and lost 2.

6) San Marino are so far the qualification’s worst side, having won no game, scored no goals and conceded 49. Andorra are similarly unsuccessful with no victory, but they have conceded 30 less goals and have at least scored one.

7) Group C leaders Italy have conceded fewer goals than any other team, at this point. Their defence has only been beaten twice.

8) Qualified teams so far are group winners Germany, Italy, Netherlands, England and Spain. Poland and Ukraine are already qualified as hosts.

9) The race for the second place is hot in Group A, Group B, Group C and Group I, as only a point separates the runners-up from the third-placed teams.

10) The draw for the UEFA Euro 2012 play-offs will take place on October 13. It will determine the fixtures for the 8 final runners-up, excluding the best runner-up, and hence help to complete the list of teams for the UEFA Euro 2012 finals.
