Contract extension talks are not in Robin van Persie’s mind yet. The Arsenal skipper is having too much to think about already as the Gunners are working on their crisis redemption.
Explaining his choice to hold off talks, Van Persie told reporters:

“I still have almost two years until 2013. So for the moment that’s fine, but I don’t know. We will have to look. I’m happy with my contract, I’m good. That’s how it is, I can’t say much more.

“I can’t look into the future. The main thing for me is the team and that we play well. I do believe you have to look for a right moment to sit down and speak about your own stuff.

“It’s not only about me, it’s about the team. I don’t want to give the wrong message to speak about my own stuff while the others are a bit more important.

“I can’t say we are talking now because we are so busy. We have games every three or four days.”

Last weekend, Robin van Persie helped Arsenal demolish Bolton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium. He scored a brace and thus grabbed his 100th Arsenal goal. Reflecting on his feat, the Dutch striker told reporters:

“I'm very proud. I'm only the 17th player in the history of Arsenal players to pass 100 goals. It is a big achievement.”

A few Gooners might fear the prospect of losing Van Persie to another team in future. Arsene Wenger, however, doesn’t believe that the striker will ever follow Thierry Henry, Gael Clichy, Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri out of the club. Speaking about his captain, the Arsenal coach stated:

“If you are in Robin's place and you see Nasri going, Fabregas going, then you can be worried of course. But now he is on the way out? No, I don't think that really. Robin is not from Barcelona.”

The season continues for Arsenal with a Champions League encounter against Olympiacos on Wednesday. The Gunners drew their opening fixture in Europe and are looking to clinch their first victory of the campaign.
