Fears that players are getting increasingly distracted at Arsenal have come again with Gervinho revealing his fascination for being around top players.
But following Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri’s departure from the Emirates Stadium, which occurred after Gervinho signed for the Gunners in July, the club has become something else. Only Robin van Persie, Arshavin and perhaps Jack Wilshere appear as the biggest stars at Arsenal.

Ivory Coast international Gervinho couldn’t hide his confusion and disappointment at the present situation. The former Lille play maker declared according to Sky Sports:

“I wanted to play with Samir [Nasri] because he is a big player. His exit has left me in pain. He promised to be there this season… and then changed his mind.”

In an interview with RMC, Gervinho reportedly added:

“I would have liked to have played with Cesc and Samir. I like to play with great players and it's a shame.

“They left to join big clubs to try their luck elsewhere. One day I hope to have the opportunity to play with them again.”

Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas are indeed enjoying great moments thus far whereas Arsenal are in a real crisis. New Manchester City boy Samir Nasri played a big part in the Sky Blues’ 5-1 defeat of Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Cesc Fabregas, meanwhile, has already won 2 cups at Barcelona in the form of the 2011 Supercopa de España and the UEFA Super Cup. The Spaniard provided an assist to Lionel Messi’s winner in the Spanish Super Cup before netting 3 goals in his last 3 matches—the Joan Gamper Trophy, the UEFA Super and the Villarreal game in La Liga.

On the contrary, Gervinho had a turbulent English Premier League debut with Arsenal. He picked up a red card following a controversial brawl against ex-Newcastle United player and current Queens Park Rangers man Joey Barton.

Having only recently committed to Arsenal’s project of clinching success following his summer transfer, Gervinho can only hope for better things to happen at the club. According to Sky Sports, the Ivoirian concluded:

“This is a different Arsenal, a new team without [Samir] Nasri and Cesc [Fabregas]. But we need to forget that and to turn the page. Now we must think only about the future.”

After the international break, Arsenal players will unite again with the aim of bouncing back from their terrible 8-2 defeat to Manchester United. 17th-placed Arsenal will entertain 15th-placed Swansea City when the English Premier League resumes on September 10.
