Nani was left out from Manchester United’s first XI against Barcelona at Wembley, but his performance against the Catalans last weekend has proven that the winger deserves more playing time.
Competition has become tougher for Nani now following Ashley Young’s arrival from Aston Villa. But after insisting a few weeks ago that Young was very much welcomed at Old Trafford, the Portuguese winger is not set to change his opinion. He told the press on Monday:

“I will try [to win a regular starting XI spot]. I want to do much better than last season. Competition is good, it inspires you.

“If you have competition, you will train harder and push yourself in every game. I can get better. That is what I am trying to do.

“It is not easy but it is what I look to achieve every year. If I can get more goals and more assists, that will be good for the team and help us in all the competitions we are going for.”

Nani was on fire against Barcelona last weekend as Real Madrid ended up winning the 2011 World Football Challenge while Manchester United finished closely behind to round up their US tour in style. The winger opened the scoring in the first period before Thiago Alcantara equalized with a stunning volley only for Michael Owen to finally find the winner in a 2-1 victory for Manchester United.
