The Englishman reportedly wishes to leave Spurs after watching the north London giants crash out of the UEFA Europa League in embarrassing fashion.

Harry Kane enjoyed a lovely performance in Tottenham's Premier League clash with Aston Villa, scoring once en route to a 2-0 victory. That effort, which came courtesy of a penalty he won, was his 17th of the season, taking his overall goal contribution in the English top-flight this season to 30.

However, this has done little to squash the exit rumors. After crashing out of the UEFA Europa League in embarrassing manner, throwing away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Dinamo Zagreb, all eyes turned to Kane's future.

Their elimination from Europe means the Englishman's wait for his first trophy could continue, with the Carabao Cup being their only remaining route to silverware. Given that the Three Lions ace is 27 and has publicly confessed his desire to win titles, be it in north London or elsewhere, many believe he will push for a move this summer.

This sentiment was echoed by trusted Athletic journalist David Ornstein who gave an interview with Sky Sports where he discussed the issue of Kane's future. According to him, Harry's responsibility as vice-captain means he cannot go public with his desire to leave Spurs, but that desire to hand in a transfer request undeniably exists.

"I speak to a lot of people in football and the consensus is that he would like to leave Tottenham," Ornstein said.

"He cannot say that publicly. He's the captain and he's very committed while he's at the club but he wants to win trophies – he's said that publicly.

"He's made it incredibly clear that he wants to win multiple trophies, the biggest trophies in football. It doesn't look likely that he'll be able to do that at Tottenham, so I think he would be open to a transfer."

However, how much would a Tottenham departure cost? According to Ornstein, Daniel Levy would likely demand a whopping $166M (£120M) for his goalscoring machine, meaning a north London exit could be all but impossible.

"However that's incredibly unlikely (leaving Tottenham) as Daniel Levy would want an astonishingly high figure for him. There are reports today of well in excess £120m for Levy to even consider letting him go," the Athletic journalist added.

"He would be on the radar of all the major clubs that shop on that market. It will come to a crunch at some point because if Kane wants to go he'll have to express that to Tottenham, otherwise he may miss this opportunity to miss the biggest trophies."

It should be noted that the season is not over and that a lot can happen between now and the summer. Mourinho's men are not mathematically out of the top four race and could finish 2020/21 with silverware should they beat Man City in the Carabao Cup final.
