The South American footballer shared a warm moment with the team's new boss before Laporta delivered his inaugural speech.

Keeping Lionel Messi around will not be an easy task for Joan Laporta, but Barcelona's new president seems to be taking the proper steps to ensure "La Pulga" signs a contract extension with the club.

Speaking in his first public appearance after winning the presidential elections, Laporta referred to Messi's future in his inaugural speech. Moments before he took the podium, Laporta embraced Messi in clear reference to what he did during his first unveiling ceremony.

"We're going to try and convince him to stay because he is the best ever and, forgive me for this Leo, but Barcelona loves you and I love you. If this stadium was full, I'm sure you wouldn't be able to leave. We will try to make him stay, but whatever you decide will be fine by us," Laporta stated.

Messi and Barcelona's new president share a hug before the president's speech.

Barcelona's finances are not what they used to be, and Laporta will have to make miracles happen to keep Messi around. The new boss is expected to look at the team's books in the next couple of weeks before he meets with Jorge Messi with a new contract for the Argentine footballer.

Messi was not the only first-team player present at the ceremony. He was joined by Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Gerard Piqué, and coach Ronald Koeman.
