The Polish ace was on target again as his team eased to a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen...and he set a huge milestone in the process.

On Saturday, Bayern Munich traveled to take on Werder Bremen. Their hosts had notably managed to hold the titans to a draw in the prior fixture, and with American striker Josh Sargent enjoying a recent purple patch of form, many were wondering how things would turn out this time around.

Well, Bayern made sure not to have a repeat of their last clash with die Grün-Weißen as they were 3-0 up well before the second period ended, rendering Niclas Füllkrug's effort into a mere consolation for Florian Kohfeldt's men.

The win, coupled with RB Leipzig's 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, now means that Bayern have finally gotten the breakthrough they needed as they chase a ninth consecutive Bundesliga title. Goals from Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, and Robert Lewandowski were enough to give Hansi Flick's troops all three points and establish a four-point lead over Leizpig, who have been aggressively chasing them for much of this season.

But it was Lewandowski's goal - his 32nd of the season - that really has fans taking notice. He's now eight away from matching Gerd Muller's record, but more important, it marks a huge milestone for the Polish star.

And by huge, we mean huge.

Why? Because that's goal number 268 for the 32-year-old.

Prior to this match, Lewandowski was third on the all-time top goal scorer's list with 267 goals. Now, he's pulled level with Schalke icon Klaus Fischer and is tied for second.

The only player now ahead of Lewy? None other than Gerd Muller, who plundered 365 goals during his Bundesliga career.

Can Lewandowski possibly top that? Well, he now has to score at least 98 goals between now and when he hangs up his boots. He'll be turning 33 later this year, but has been largely fit and injury-free for most of his career. So, assuming he decides to play until 36 or 37 - although, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic still at it and approaching his 40th birthday, one shouldn't be shocked to see Lewandowski still fighting fit in his late 30's - he'll only need to score a bit over 30 goals per season. Even less if he plays until 39 or 40.

In short, one shouldn't bet against it, especially if he, as expected, beats Muller's season record for 40 goals at the end of this campaign.
