According to one former Bianconeri manager, the Portuguese icon was at fault for the Dragons' second goal.

Tuesday was a night to forget for Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo as the Serie A giants failed to make it far in the UEFA Champions League for the third year running since acquiring the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. Last season, it was Lyon that humiliated the Bianconeri; this time around, that honor goes to Porto.

After losing the away leg 2-1 in Portugal, the Italian heavyweights needed to win 1-0 or by a two-goal margin in order to progress to the quarter-final. The Old Lady overturned the deficit in the 63rd minute and despite playing against 10 men – Mehdi Taremi was sent off for the Dragons – Pirlo's side weren't able to capitalize. As a result, the game went into extra-time and ended 4-3 to Juventus, which was not enough, as they lost the tie on away goals and thus bowed out of the tournament.

After their shocking elimination, several names came under fire. Szczęsny was criticized for failing to stop Porto's second goal, Demiral was slammed for conceding an early penalty, while more pressure mounted on under-fire gaffer Andrea Pirlo. However, former Juventus and Italy manager Fabio Capello had his crosshairs on Cristiano after Tuesday's upset.

The 74-year-old accused the five-time Ballon d'Or winner of committing an "unforgiveable mistake" that led to the Bianconeri's demise. What is this grave sin the Portuguese icon is guilty of? Turning his back on a free-kick.

With five minutes left on the clock and the game tied at 2-1 (2-2 on aggregate), 10-man Porto were awarded a free kick from 35 yards out. Sergio Oliveira stepped up to the spot and hit a low shot which crept its way into the back of the net after traveling through Ronaldo's legs because he had turned his back on the ball.

Juventus went on to score a third courtesy of Adrien Rabiot but that was not enough as Porto's 115th-minute goal sent the Italians crashing out. While Capello argued that every one of Pirlo's players bar Chiesa, who scored a brace, was off the mark, the Italian highlighted CR7's unflattering moment.

"There are single mistakes and (mistakes due to) loss of concentration on all the goals conceded," Capello said (as per CNN).

"Before the ball is kicked, Ronaldo has already turned: it is very serious. If you're part of the wall, you know that you can be on the receiving end of a powerful shot, it is an unforgivable mistake that is unjustifiable. In Porto there were 70 minutes not played and 20 played by Juve.

"Tonight, it conceded goals and the game was immediately uphill. Apart from Chiesa, who made the difference? All the others seemed a bit jaded, the players of Porto had much more rhythm."

Much has been said about Ronaldo's future, with Juventus appearing nowhere closer to winning a UEFA Champions League crown since signing him back in 2018. The 36-year-old is on high wages and will be entering the final year of his contract but despite this, club executive Fabio Paratici stressed that they have no desire to sell the five-time UCL winner.
