A goalless draw between Chelsea and Manchester United broadcasted by NBCSN on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. was the most-watched soccer game on U.S. TV last week. Despite the lack of action on the pitch, the broadcast received a 0.44 viewership rating after 758,000 viewers tuned in to watch the Premier League marquee matchup. Another English topflight broadcast made it to the top three at the No. 3 position in West Brom’s 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday morning. A total of 434,000 viewers tuned in to the telecast, which received a 0.29 rating. Five other Premier League games aired by NBCSN made it to Showbuzzdaily's top 150 cable originals and network finals last week, averaging 232,000 viewers per broadcast.
The second most-watched game last week came in the shape of the SheBelieves Cup final game that the USWNT won 6-0 against Argentina to claim its fourth SheBelieves title in six years. FOX Sports 1 transmitted the game, which received a 0.26 viewership rating after 530,000 viewers tuned into the broadcast.
TUDN did not land a broadcast into the top three last week, however, it was the channel that aired the most soccer game with eight telecasts. Saturday’s Liga MX matchup between reigning champions Leon and Cruz Azul at 9:56 p.m. ET was the most-viewed game, attracting 333,000 viewers. TUDN offered five other Liga MX games and the average viewers per broadcast – taking into account Leon 0-1 Cruz Azul – was 254,000. The other two screenings were UEFA Champions League round of 16 games, which averaged 212,000 viewers.
Four La Liga Santander games cracked into Showbuzzdaily's top 150 cable originals and network finals last week. The most successful of the pack was Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Sevilla on Saturday. The game landed a 0.09 viewership rating after 218,000 people watched the game.
Lastly, FOX Deportes and NBC’s Universo broadcasted another three Liga MX games. FOX Deportes was the most successful of the two with a couple of transmissions that got past 175,000 average viewers. Universo’s broadcast of Chivas Guadalajara’s 2-1 victory over Pumas UNAM on Sunday only received a 0.04 viewership rating after 102,000 people tuned in.
