February 15, 2021 By Ali M.
It wasn't a great weekend for AC Milan and Juventus as the two Italian giants suffered slip-ups in the heated 2020/21 Serie A title race.

The weekend action in Serie A brought about results that have shook the title race. AC Milan suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to mid-table Spezia, with bitter rivals Inter Milan profiting from this slip up and going top of the table after the Nerazzurri's beat Lazio 3-1. Italian champions Juventus suffered another setback in their title defense, falling 1-0 in their trip to Napoli, leaving them two points away from dropping out of the top four. Roma, on the other hand, thrashed Udinese 3-0 on Sunday to leapfrog Cristiano and Co. into third. Here's everything you need to know about the weekend Serie A action.

No player has scored more goals this season in the Italian top-flight than Cristiano Ronaldo (16). However, after drawing blanks against Napoli, Romelu Lukaku has now caught up with the Portuguese legend, with the Belgian netting a brace in the 3-1 win over Lazio. Zlatan Ibrahimovic failed to get on the scoresheet but he remains third in the Golden Boot race thanks to his 14 strikes.

Serie A – Top headlines

  • Romelu Lukaku reached an excellent feat in the 3-1 win over Lazio, with the Belgian striker scoring his 300th career goal with his brace.

  • However, the striker wasn't the only Inter player to reach a personal landmark in that game as Samir Handanovic made his 500th Serie A appearance.

  • Fabio Quagliarella became Sampdoria's joint-second all-time leading scorer over the weekend, with the Italian netting for the 92nd time for his Serie A side. Only Roberto Mancini (132) boast more goals for the club.

  • Not only did AC Milan suffer a disappointing result, but also a disappointing performance. Ibrahimovic and Co. failed to fire a single shot on target in the Spezia defeat, the first time this has occurred since August 2019.

Top matches to watch in Serie A: Feb. 19-22, 2021

AC Milan vs Inter Milan: Sunday will see the latest edition of the Derby di Milano. This fixture comes at a crucial time, with the Nerazzurri having recently leapfrogged Rossoneri to take the top spot. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see Ibrahimovic and Lukaku go head-to-head once again after their heated clash in the Coppa Italia. Do not miss this game!

Atalanta vs Napoli: Gattuso's fifth-placed side will visit Gian Piero Gasperini's sixth-placed outfit. The two sides are level on points (40) and are going toe-to-toe in Serie A's heated European race. The winner will get a huge boost in the race to snatch a top-four spot from one of Juventus or Roma.

Juventus vs Crotone: The defending champions will host the bottom-of-the-table outfit. Given that AC Milan and Inter will be facing off a day earlier, the Old Lady could have the golden opportunity to make up ground in the title race if the game ends in a draw.
