Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has landed himself in an illustrious company with his goals in Saturday's Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur. The German international was involved in all the three goals scored by the Citizens, as he found the back of the net twice after winning a penalty for the game's opener.
What was a controversial call by referee Paul Tierney and the Video Assistant crew paved the way for Manchester City to open the scoring from a spot-kick through Rodri in the 23rd minute. Five minutes into the second half, Gundogan doubled his side's advantage by making use of a brilliant pass from Raheem Sterling. He then grabbed his second in the 66th minute - his 13th goal in all competitions this season and ninth in his last nine appearances.
15 - Man City haven't trailed for a single minute in any of their last 15 Premier League games – in the competition's history, only Arsenal have embarked on a longer run of successive games without going behind (a run of 19 matches between December 1998 – May 1999). Despite being replaced with Ferran Torres shortly after, the the recently adjugded PFA Player of the Month managed to land a personal milestone with his contribution for the day. With his brace, the midfielder took his Premier League goals tally for this season to 11, becoming only the third German to reach that haul in a single campaign. He currently trails Jürgen Klinsmann (20) and Uwe Rösler (15) on the chart with both players achieving the feat in the 1994-95 campaign.
