Manchester United will welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford on Wednesday night and will look to regain top spot on the Premier League table with yet another win. The Red Devils enter the mid-week's encounter in second place with cross-town rivals Manchester City climbing into No.1 position with a resounding 5-0 win over West Brom. Victory over the Blades will put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side right back in front with a two-point advantage and it is no secret that they will go all out to get a good result against Chris Wilder's struggling side.

United approach the upcoming Premier League encounter soaring high in confidence, after successfully eliminating Liverpool from the FA Cup via a 3-2 scoreline. The weekend's win meant that the Merseysiders have failed to get a win in each of their last six visits to Old Trafford. While the venue has not really been a real fortress for the Red Devils in the Premier League in recent seasons, they will be looking to build on the massive win to turn their sacred arena into a feared ground once more.

In the ongoing campaign, they have secured four wins from nine outings from the venue, losing two while drawing the remaining three. Needless to say, since losing 1-0 to Arsenal in November 2020, Solskjaer's side remain unbeaten in all the five home game's they have played since. In the grand scheme of things, they have successfully picked up at least a point in their last 13 league appearances since the defeat against the Gunners. Coming up against a Sheffield United side that sits at the base of the league table, the Red Devils will fancy their chances of cruising to another resounding win.

During the first round, the Blades handed Solskjaer's men a late scare in their 3-2 defeat at Bramall Lane and, as a result, will be eager to top that up by upsetting the odds this time around. However, that will require massive effort with their form looking all but convincing enough. They will enter Wednesday's clash at Old Trafford off the back of a poor run that has seen them manage just one win in 19 league outings this season. This achieved via a 1-0 scoreline against a 10-man Newcastle United side. Since then, Chris Wilder's men have gone on to suffer a 3-1 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Prior to their first and only victory of the league season so far, Sheffield United had managed two draws in 17 outings while losing the remaining 15 - eight of which were in succession. Manchester United could be without forward Marcus Rashford after he picked up an injury in the FA Cup win over Liverpool. Eric Bailly is expected to compete for a starting berth after being rested in the cup tie with a minor knock. Meanwhile Jesse Lingard is close to completing a loan move to West Ham and, as a result, is not expected to be involved. Both Brandon Williams and Phil Jones are ruled out of contention with respective injuries.

For Sheffield United, defender John Egan is suspended while Jack O'Connell also remains out with a knee problem. Sander Berge is also ruled out with a leg issue. Both Ben Osborn and Oli McBurnie could return after sitting out the win over Plymouth Argyle.
