The former Paris Saint-Germain boss as been appointed to succeed Frank Lampard as Chelsea's new boss.

Chelsea have officially confirmed the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as their new manager. The 47-year-old German manager takes over the reins from Frank Lampard 24 hours after he was sacked by the Blues.

On Monday, Chelsea issued statement announcing the termination of the contract of the 42-year-old English manager. A series of underwhelming performances have seen the London club performing below par and sitting ninth on the Premier League table despite investing over 200 million pounds last summer. This coupled with claims of conflicts in the dressing room facilitated the dismissal of the club legend.

Soon after, Thomas Tuchel was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge with multiple reports from England suggesting that the club's hierarchy had been in talks with him for some time now. On Tuesday, the German manager's appointment was made official after he penned an 18-month contract with an option to extend further. A statement on the official website reads:

"Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new Chelsea Head Coach. He moves to Stamford Bridge following a two-and-a-half year spell at French champions Paris Saint-Germain, which came to an end last month.

"He will be the first German to manage Chelsea and arrives having guided PSG to four major honours and the Champions League final during his time in the French capital.

"Prior to that, he spent seven seasons coaching in the Bundesliga, first with Mainz, where he led them into the Europa League, and then a successful period with Borussia Dortmund where he won the German Cup.

"At Chelsea, he will be reunited with Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva who he coached during his spells in Dortmund and Paris respectively."
