Two teams from Brazil and two more from Argentina will determine the winner of the most relevant club competition in South America.

The time has come for fans around the world to watch the semi-finals of the 2020 Copa Libertadores. The tournament, which had to be suspended last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will see its semi-finalists being decided between this week and the next.

This will be a battle between two countries who will love to see one of their own lifting the crown. On one side, Argentine clubs Boca Juniors and River Plate will try to increase their tally in the continental competition with a possible Superclásico in the horizon, and on the other, Brazilian clubs Santos and Palmeiras will try to shock South American football by eliminating both Argentine teams.

The first game to be played this week will be the one between River Plate and Palmeiras. The Argentine club will play its first semi-final tie away from their beloved Monumental Stadium since it is currently being remodeled. Almost 24 hours later, Boca Juniors will be hosting Santos in the other semi-final clash. Let's have a closer look at both ties.

River Plate vs Palmeiras - Tuesday, January 5, 2021

Los Millonarios get to this stage of the competition after beating Nacional de Uruguay with an emphatic 8-2 aggregate. Marcelo Gallardo's men became the first Argentine side to score six goals away from home in a clash against Nacional, and after scoring 31 goals throughout the tournament, River must be considered a top contender for the title.

On the other side of the pitch, Palmeiras will make the trip to Argentina after defeating Libertad in the Quarterfinals. The Brazilian side is yet to lose their first game in the tournament, and some say that if there is a team that can beat River in this competition, it is precisely the green and white side from Brazil.

Boca Juniors vs Santos - Wednesday, January 6, 2021

Los Xeneizes have not had the best Copa Libertadores, but they have managed to reach the semis with some interesting matches being played along the way. Miguel Angel Russo's men defeated fellow Argentine side Racing after losing the first leg, but beating Santos will not be an easy task for the blue and yellow club.

Brazilian side Santos has been quite impressive in the competition, losing only one game so far and keeping an impressive record when playing away from home (four wins and one draw). It is precisely that fact that will give Alexi Stival's men a good ego boost to try and reach the title clash after hosting the return leg next week.
