According to the former striker, the nods given to these superstars were questionable to say the least.

We are less than 24 hours away from knowing the identity of the footballer who will be crowned as The Best by FIFA, but according to some experts, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to be included in the final list.

According to former Manchester United player and Cristiano Ronaldo teammate Dimitar Berbatov, both players were undeserving of the nod, adding that politics may be the real reason why both were included in the shortlist.

"I'm a bit shocked to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi among the finalists. I don't see any real reason why they should opt to win the award. Unfortunately, football is a business and there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes. It's a bit embarrassing if you ask me," Berbatov stated.

The former footballer, who scored over 120 goals for three Premier League clubs, added that Robert Lewandowski should be the one to take the trophy home, regardless of the stiff competition Messi and CR7 will put up.

"This year's The Best award should be given to Lewandowski. If he doesn't get it, we will see a true injustice taking place. I don't know who should opt for the award beside him, because every guy has his own list of nominees. But this year that would not matter, because Lewandowski must win against anyone he is nominated with," Berbatov concluded.
