This stage of the competition will not be played in its entirety, as Boca Juniors and Internacional are yet to play the return leg of their Round of 16 tie.

We are down to the last eight teams in the Copa Libertadores, and the first games will be played this week with massive anticipation from fans and experts across South America.

So far, this stage of the tournament will be played by three Brazilian clubs, two teams from Argentina, one Uruguayan side and a team from Paraguay. The list will be completed by one more team form Argentina (Boca Juniors) or from Brazil (Internacional) when their Round of 16 tie is completed this week.

Let's have a look at how each confirmed tie will be played. The number inside each bracket is the seed each team had when the Round of 16 began, since it will be used to determine the host of the second leg in all subsequent ties.

Palmeiras (1) vs Libertad (16) - The Brazilian side hardly struggled to beat Delfin, as their 8-1 aggregate score indicates. Meanwhile, Libertad overcame underdog odds to beat Jorge Wilstermann with a 5-1 aggregate. The first leg of the tie will be played in Paraguay on December 8, while the return leg is scheduled to be played in Brazil on December 15.

Santos (2) vs Gremio (7) - This tie will assure a team from Brazil will reach the semis, and both of them have reasons to believe in their triumph. Santos struggled to beat LDU Quito in the previous round, and Gremio earned an emphatic 4-0 aggregate win against Guarani, which might be seen by many as a sign of things to come. The first leg will be played on December 9, and the return leg will be held at Santos' stadium on December 16.

Nacional (4) vs River Plate (6) - The Uruguayan side needed a penalty shootout to beat Independiente del Valle, while River Plate prevailed with a 2-1 aggregate against Paranaense. This time, Nacional will try to play their cards on their favor, as they will host the return leg on December 17. Meanwhile, River Plate will aim to get a comfortable lead on the first leg, set to be played on December 10.

Racing (9) vs Boca Juniors(5)/Internacional (14) - The Argentine side shocked the world by eliminating defending champions Flamengo last week, and now, the team coached by Sebastián Beccacece will wait to find out who their rival will be, as Boca and Internacional had to postpone their tie due to Diego Maradona's passing. The venue of each game will be determined when either Boca or Inter make it to the last eight.
